Overview
Mutations are special pet variants that apply a flat multiplier on top of a pet's base cash-per-second output. They stack with rarity and size, so a mutated common with a large size roll can out-earn an unmutated pet several rarity tiers above it. Mutations are visible on the egg shell before you pick it up, often indicated by a rainbow or golden hue, and an egg with a different appearance can signal a guaranteed mutation upon hatching.
Mutation Multipliers and Variants
The game features multiple mutations with varying multipliers and acquisition methods. Community data shows some variation in reported values for specific mutations.
- **Silver** — 1.25x — Natural egg spawn; Admin Abuse events. - **Bloom** — 1.5x — Sakura Incubator only. Eldorado lists the chance as 97.5%. - **Golden** — 2x — Natural egg spawn; Admin Abuse events. - **Rainbow** — 2.5x — Natural egg spawn; Admin Abuse events. The Steal An Egg Wiki lists Rainbow at x3.5, indicating conflicting community data. - **Spirit Bloom** — 3x — Sakura Incubator only. Rarest mutation with a 2.5% chance. - **Fractured** — ~2.75x — Rift Boss event consumables. - **Parasite** — ~3x — Hungry Frog event Parasite Egg. - **Monstrous** — Unknown — Low chance on eggs from the Monster Chest. IGN lists this variant but does not provide a confirmed multiplier.**Notes on Modifiers and Naming:** * IGN reports that mutation modifiers may vary based on pet weight rather than being fixed values. For example, a Silver TRex showed a 20% income increase, while a Silver King Snake showed 17%. * IGN uses slightly different naming conventions, referring to Golden as "Gold" and Spirit Bloom as "Sakura Bloom." * Eldorado counts Fractured and Parasite as part of the mutation set, bringing the total to seven variants including the core five.
Income Calculation and Size Interaction
Mutation is a separate attribute from size. Size is displayed as a weight in kilograms and is rolled independently at hatch. Final income scales by multiplying the base rate by both the mutation multiplier and the size multiplier.
Per the Steal An Egg Wiki, weight impacts value with diminishing returns: * **100x base weight:** Approximately 17x base value. * **200x base weight:** Approximately 23x base value. * **1000x base weight:** Approximately 45x base value.
Because mutations apply a flat multiplier to the base income, the same mutation yields significantly more cash on a large, high-income pet. Community strategy consistently recommends stealing the biggest egg in every biome to maximize the value of any mutation that lands. Always check the money-per-second card before trading or fusing to verify the actual output.
Natural Spawns and Fusion Mechanics
Silver, Golden, and Rainbow mutations can appear naturally when an egg hatches or during Admin Abuse events. Patrolling nests for odd-colored eggs is the primary farming method, as mutated shells display distinct visual changes before pickup.
**Fuse Machine Rules:** The Fuse Machine, located on the left side of the starting area, allows you to combine three of the same pet. * **Preserving Mutations:** A mutation is kept only if all three pets going into the machine carry the same variant. Mixing mutated and unmutated pets risks dropping the mutation. * **Increasing Chances:** IGN notes that placing pets in the Fuse Machine can increase the chances of a mutation occurring, though specific odds are not confirmed.
Sakura Incubator and Bloom Mutations
Bloom and Spirit Bloom are exclusive to the Sakura Incubator, located in the Cherry Blossom zone.
**Unlocking the Incubator:** * Submit a Crane pet to the machine to unlock it permanently. The Crane is an Epic pet from Cherry Blossom eggs and is consumed during the process. * The Incubator requires Sakura Crystals to charge.
**Sakura Crystals and Charging:** * Crystals drop from Crystal Cherry Blossom Trees during the Great Bloom event, which runs roughly every 30 minutes for about three minutes. * Charging the Incubator to 100% guarantees a mutation lands. Pushing the charge toward the maximum raises the odds of receiving Spirit Bloom instead of Bloom. * Spirit Bloom has a 2.5% chance, while Bloom is the common result.
**Stacking Mutations:** You can place an egg that already carries a regular mutation (Silver, Golden, or Rainbow) into the Sakura Incubator. The egg can receive Bloom or Spirit Bloom alongside the existing mutation, stacking both multipliers on the same pet.
Event-Exclusive Mutations
Certain mutations are tied to limited-time events and cannot be obtained through standard hatching.
* **Parasite (~3x):** During the Hungry Frog event, feeding Hungry Frog five infected eggs gives a 1.5% chance to drop a Parasite Egg. Hatching this egg yields the Parasite mutation. * **Fractured (~2.75x):** During the Rift Boss event, Boss Tokens can be used to purchase mutation consumables from the Boss Shop. Each consumable gives an egg a 10% chance to hatch with the Fractured mutation.
